Columbus Ohio Health Clubs
There are many health clubs in the Columbus Ohio region. Columbus is one of the unhealthiest cities in the United States, so it is only natural that there would be a lot of health clubs and fitness centers in the Columbus area. Some of the more popular fitness centers in Columbus are:
Before you join a Columbus Ohio health club, here are three things you need to be aware of before signing your name on the dotted line. These items were taken from an article from Smartmoney entitled, "10 Things Your Gym Won't Tell You":
- If you're still here in April, it will be a miracle.
The fitness craze is huge around January and Columbus is no different. There are health clubs all over the place. But, most people with the intention of sticking to their fitness resolutions, don't make it past 90 days. In fact, most gyms count on a drop out rate of 20% - 30%. Yet, they will still take your money from you even though you aren't going because you are locked in a monthly membership.
Before selecting your gym, ask for a free week trial. Go to the club during the time of day that you would most likely workout and see how busy it is. Is it tough to get on machines? What is the waiting list like? Etc.
Very few of us are disciplined and know exactly what we are doing when we get to the gym. Make sure you have a solid workout plan, so you can get in, get out, and know you have done a good workout.
- Our equipment can be downright dangerous.
Unlike most business, health clubs do not need a special license to operate and there is no set level of standardization. This can mean that equipment maintenance isn't checked properly or that gym owners won't put instructions on the equipment. So injuries can be a result of the equipment not updated or maintained and not knowing exactly what you are doing on the equipment then you hurt yourself.
It would be nice to have a solid workout plan that maybe didn't require the use of a lot of equipment. Or if equipment was involved, they were very simple pieces that couldn't cause much injury in case of a mishap.
- Our trainers don't know what they're doing.
Chances are you will receive a couple free training sessions with your new membership "to get you on a program." It is usually a generic program that really isn't tailored to getting you results. Then the trainer will try to sell you on his/her training expertise and get you to buy a training package. Don't be so sure on that expertise though.
Personal trainers aren't held to any standard certification. You could get certified by any number of online certifications as a personal trainer within the hour. You should look for a trainer that has a certification from either the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). These are two of the top accredited certifications out there.Be aware of those items, but all the above Columbus Ohio health clubs are all great fitness centers.
What happens though when you can't afford the personal training they offer AND the three consultations they gave you to put you on a workout plan just confuse you??
Losing weight or achieving whatever health goals you have, takes a solid gameplan. Why waste all that money on a membership, if you are just spinning your wheels. You get frustrated and don't come back.
But, I'm here to tell you that if you have a plan that produces results, then wouldn't that gym membership be worth it??
What if I told you that plan would only take you 30-45 minutes of a workout, 3 days a week, and produce guaranteed fitness/fat loss results? You could do the exercise at the gym you belong to or your home.
